  • A Joseph a Month

Last August 2011, while driving through rural Michigan with my father, Doug Zinger, we discussed how he planned to sell him house. The outlook was not optimistic. He then made an offhand comment about a superstition among Catholics that involved burying a statue of Saint Joseph upside down in the yard to sell a house. Enraptured with this idea, I began the search for the perfect statue of Saint Joseph to send him to accomplish his mission. On my search, I came upon an even better idea. I decided to approach 12 different artists to make a different Joseph Statue every month that I would then send my dad to bury. The burials would be documented by Chicago artist/filmmaker, Mazen Hasan. The Josephs began to arrive at his house last November 2011. Doug has yet to put his house up for sale….so another year of Josephs may be in order.

The artists featured in the 2011-2012 are: Portia Roy, Mazen Hasan, Mark Martinez, Eva Ashford, Tara Burkhardt, Elizabeth Armstrong, Bob Fish, Tyler Stuart, Jessica Palmert, Jakob Vala, Laura Walker and Tracey Cockrell. A hearty thanks to all the participating artists!

  • Endure MS

I created and dedicated this project to my older sister, Elizabeth, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. I tied myself to a 5’5, 30 lb. skeleton for one week to make the burden of living with a chronic illness like MS visible and accessible. My intention was to live my life as normally as possible while attached to the skeleton. I worked with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland, Oregon Inc. (MSSP) to raise funds to help those currently living with MS.

The project raised an estimated $1770. Payton Biddington designed the phenomenal website and worked with Zaneta Taylor to create the promotional items. The main picture was taken by Jordan Sleeth of Advance Camera.
